Arrested Development was a mockumentary television comedy first broadcast on the Fox Television Network from 2003 to 2006.

Its premise centered on a California real-estate entrepreneur facing justice for fraud.

While popular with a higly dedicated core audience who enjoyed its dry but absurd humor, including its remarkably rich mining of callbacks and internal references, the series struggled to find a larger mass audience.

Many of the scripted comedy's characters were each individually said to be too broad and unrealistic in the strength and extent of their entitlement, laziness, ineptitude, childishness, melodrama, duplicity or sexually ambiguity for most people watching to come close to suspending disbelief.
