Award
From CaseyPedia
An award is something that is won on the back of acclaim by popular or expert opinion.
It used to be thought that there was a hierarchy of awards - for instance, an Oscar mattered more than a citation by a tiny panel of fellow bloggers. However, Salt Lake City resident Nigel Swaby maintains that this is not the case.
"Over the last decade or so, the Web has leveled the playing field", Swaby said. "The value of awards and the importance of those giving them has become increasingly irrelevant. My own award-winning blog is testament to that."
"Also", Swaby added, "the fact that my award was only bronze should not be taken to mean that it is in any way inferior to the silver or gold awards. All three are naturally occurring metals that should be regarded equally. Besides which, these particular awards weren't supplied in metallic form, which makes them even more equal. I like to think of my bronze award as being studded with diamonds, giving an effect in a certain light not unlike the glinting of the light on a well-maintained indoor pool".
