CashCall

CashCall is a consumer credit company specializing in unsecured loans at very high interest rates (limited by law in some states but as high as 96% in Casey's case). The company made the dire mistake of lending actual money to admitted grifter Casey Serin. It was a series of frantic attempts by CashCall to relieve Serin of some of his stolen cash which led to the first beg-a-thon.

Although Serin managed to raise the cash, he failed to sign and return a contract by the requested deadline. He conceded that this was "probably mostly my fault."[1] Assorted Haterz™ gleefully pointed out that in the transcript of the conversation with CashCall rep "Mr. King" that he posted on IAFF[2], he could be heard verbally agreeing to this deadline - so "probably mostly" translates as "certainly completely".

One of the more interesting factoids discovered by the Haterz™ was that by applying online for credit with CashCall.com one could determine whether an email address had previously been used in an application. By attempting to apply for loans using other possible serin.us e-mail addresses, Benoit™ discovered that someone had already applied for CashCall loans in the names of Galina Serin, Aleksey Serin, and some others (serin@serin.us).[3] The loans were apparently approved, suggesting that multiple people from the Serin household applied for the loans -- or more ominously, that Casey Serin himself had committed identity theft and applied for credit using their identities. All explanations about this from Serin have largely feigned ignorance.[citation needed]

[edit] Litigation Attempts

"What'chu talkin' 'bout, Casey?"
"What'chu talkin' 'bout, Casey?"

In mid-June 2007, while Casey remains an internationally wanted fugitive, Galina revealed that CashCall was beginning litigation in an effort to collect the money stolen by Casey. With her permission, the following e-mail from Galina to Casey was posted at EN:

I called CashCall. They are starting litigation. [The CashCall representative] said they'll be sueing me too since its CA and will treat it as my debt too and will garnish my wages!!!!!!!! YOU SAID THEY WOULD NOT GO AFTER ME!! YOU NEVER KNEW THAT WAS TRUE!!! DECEPTION DECEPTION DECEPTION!!! How am I supposed to put my life back together if they'll be taking all my money!!??? And no, they wont take $10,000... She said $40,000!!!!! HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME, TO US, TO YOURSELF????!!! THIS IS NO JOKE, YOU CANNOT JUST HIDE FROM IT AND LEAVE ME PAYING FOR IT!!!!!!!!

Casey answered this vicious tirade against him with utter nonchalance, replying tersely: "I think they are bluffing... I'll check into it."[4] On June 28th, a full ten days after Galina's panic-stricken e-mail, Casey confirmed[5] most people's suspicions that "checking into it" consisted of doing nothing.

Some Haterz™ speculate that the $40,000 amount is just an overzealous threat on CashCall's part, hoping to extract as much juice as possible from Casey. Others claim the increased amount is further proof that Serin took out multiple loans with the company by committing identity theft. Casey's reaction to the likely lawsuit essentially called CashCall's bluff:

CashCall is just using scare tactics. They can’t do much from what I’m told. Which doesn’t mean I will not pay them back. I just don’t like people trying to bully me and my family around.[6]

It is rumored that CashCall has now put company spokesman Gary Coleman in charge of hunting down Casey Serin in Australia.
