Consulting
From CaseyPedia
Consulting is a deliberately nebulous term, often misapplied by people who wish to give a false sense of importance to their work duties. In its traditional definition within the Information Technology sphere, consulting refers to "an experienced individual that is trained to analyze and advise a client in order to help the client make the best possible choices."[1] Often, an IT consultant may perform contract work on a particular project, using his expertise and experience to assist a sometimes less-seasoned group of team members.
In Casey's usage, however, consulting is defined as performing "whatever small tasks need to be performed with no set hours or documented expectations", including performing IT tasks, filing, calling clients, acting as a secretary, getting coffee, and duplicating CDs:
"I’m putting together and reproducing a large order of training CDs. [...] This is an example of technical consulting jobs that I have been doing this whole time. [...] Basically I’ve been putting my tech background to use."
Casey often abuses the open-ended nature of his consulting arrangements to justify his failure to show up for any actual work whatsoever, often to the ire of his employers. Casey's usage of the word in reference to his own duties implies that he envisions his contributions worthy of the high respect and pay level of traditional consultants. Employers that Casey has "consulted" for include the Local Rich Dad, Chris Record, and Damion Lupo.
