In Casey and Galina Serin's Baptist religious background, the only allowable reasons for divorce are abandonment and adultery. This point of faith has prevented from Galina from leaving Casey despite his repeatedly throwing her under the bus.^{[citation needed]}

By hastily leaving the United States as a fugitive to Australia, Casey has apparently provided a justification for a legitimate divorce, even within the strict constricts of their church.

Under California law, Casey's absence from the proceedings will not prevent the proceedings from taking place. In fact, it increases the likelihood that a judge summarily orders all his remaining assets be given to Galina, including all rights to his story and to IAFF.

In Oct 2007 Galina filed divorce papers^[1], which were served on Casey's parents as he no doubt had not left a forwarding address!

In June 2008, Nigel Swaby confirmed on CH.C that the divorce was finalized several months prior and that Galina was officially out of Casey's life.
