Ring of Hope

The Ring of Hope is Casey Serin's euphemistic name for his old wedding ring. The name was suggested by Nacho in a chat in late August 2008. Previous pet names for the ring that were rejected by Serin included "The Ring of Denial" and "The Ring of Epic Failure". Serin still wears the ring as a monument to his utterly delusional belief that his ex-wife Galina will see the error of her ways and take him back -- despite the fact that he's $500,000 in debt, living with his parents in his mid-20's, chronically unemployed, perpetually unemployable, one step away from prison, and quite possibly in the closet.
Although Serin claims the ring is gold and was presumably bought at a jewelry store, it's speculated that the ring is actually plastic, and was won at a video arcade after Serin fed 50 cents into a "claw" machine that gave out gaudy trinkets.
The current status of Galina's wedding ring is unknown. It may very well be floating somewhere in an underground sewage system, having been flushed down the toilet by her after the divorce.
