A speeding ticket is a citation issued by law enforcement for driving over the speed limit.

While on his way to snowboard at Lake Tahoe, Casey Serin was pulled over while traveling roughly 90 miles per hour in the V-Dubs, vastly exceeding the highway's likely 65mph limit. On his return, he posted photographs of the encounter and the speeding ticket to Flickr.[1][2]

Serin claimed that he was headed towards Lake Tahoe; many Haterz™, after analyzing the image, claimed that it was not the case, given the time of the infraction and the position of the sun. Why Casey would lie about the direction he was headed remains unknown, although considering that his most recent trip to Lake Tahoe for the purpose of braindumping was done by Serin without Galina's permission, it's not surprising Serin would lie about the first trip.

Examination of the picture shows that two areas of the ticket were blurred by Casey, to make them unreadable. One is his vehicle's license plate number. The other, and most significant, is whether or not the driver was able to show proof of personal liability insurance.

In California, not being able to provide proof of insurance at the time of the citation is a separate offense, and carries a considerably larger fine. Later, when the stereo was stolen from the Vdubs, Casey admitted that "our auto insurance was canceled due to non-payment."[3] It is unclear whether Casey was uninsured at the the time of the Lake Tahoe citation.

To date, no further mention of the ticket has been made by Serin, including whether it was paid or if Serin pleaded guilty in the first place.

Serin stated, apparently without irony, in a comment on one of the photographs that he has "appreciation for law enforcement."[4]. Allegedly, Sacramento judiciary officials remarked amongst themselves that they appreciated Serin as well, for the amount of work that will be require to indict him.

Ratlab later attempted to recreate the iconic photographed-while-driving image of the ticket[5]; Serin made a good-natured comment on the photograph, noting that "It takes a certain amount of multi-tasking skillz to do it just right."[6] This coming from a man who has difficulty opening mail.
