Sweet links
From CaseyPedia
Sweet Links are what Casey Serin gives to his advertisers in exchange for money.
A sweet link is just a text link on the right-hand side of IAFF; Serin currently sells each spot for $125 per month. Casey claims, that, due to such overwhelming demand, he's had to increase the number of sweet links to 25 as of June 21st, 2007. Yes Casey, that's why you have only 9 11 15 14 easily made text links, despite your claim that advertiserz were beating down the door. A more rational approach is that Casey lost all of his money with Google and possibly Yahoo! and needs the cash badly. And by diluating the sweetlinks with even more ads, you'll drive away those thought they were getting massively focused attention. Advertisers who have bought an allegedly sweet link have likely found that they've only picked up hundreds, if not thousands, of enraged people who will thenceforth have nothing to do with them.
Although the phrase hasn't been trademarked, "sweet links" can also refer to a palatable sausage product, as the following quote attests:
- Ostrich sausage with Cherries: Dried tart cherries provide tart background flavors. These slightly sweet links are perfect grilled & served warm on a bed of fresh greens with a fruity raspberry balsamic vinaigrette.[1]
Perhaps trademarking the phrase might give Serin a way to monetize his juicy thoughts, given that he's an ideas guy. He may, however, face a battle from the powerful sugarcane lobby.[2]
[edit] Advertisers who reallocated resources
On June 18th 2007, the top sweet link spot became open. It appears Quickestore.com[3] no longer wanted to appear on the blog or Casey burned yet another opportunity. In a strange twist though, Casey posted an email[4] from Rich Rooskie, aka John Hoarty, the owner of Quickestore.com. Though this information has been known for a little, Casey cemented any doubts. Why Hoarty decided to still be a supporter and not still be cashing in on the sweet exposure from the blog is anyone's guess. His testimony is still avaliable to view on Casey's advertise page.
On June 21st 2007, the 10th ad, Home-Flip.com, operated by Julie Rodriguez, has had its ad spot switched to [reserved].
A big shuffle for sweet links came on the 22nd of June as Casey lost 4 advertisers. "Dumb it Down"[5] a recent Album release from Clever Bastards (which features Roger Fisher), "Casey's Stress Tolerance is High!"[6] by Funeducation (though their other, IQ ad still remains), "Retire Young and Wealthy", an ad to another blogsite trying for passive income,[7] by the website of the same name, and "MixPal-Sell your music online"[8] from MixPal, registered under Sharky Laguana's Bandago, were no longer to be found under sweet links.
First noticed on July 9th, Sharky Laguana's remaining ad was removed. Bandago Van's is no longer placed at 11, thus removing one of Casey's initial supporterz and testimonials.
11 new advertisers have come to take their place, maintaining a new count of 15 14 ads, but one can only wonder how long it will be till they too are wondering what possessed them to advertise on a sinking ship.
