Is that Sputnik The Cat in East Coast Mentor's lap? Segfault 06:04, 11 June 2007 (CEST)

The Mentor was apparently outed on one of the Marty MP3 files... from EN:

East Coast Mentor = Steve Cook from Baltimore according to Day 2.mp3. Caseypedia needs to be updated.

BTW, Lawnmower Man, I got all the files successfully. Thanks again. I really need to listen to them tonight to pick up all the juicy tidbits like the above. God only knows what else was revealed. It's almost 14 hours of content!!! Yikes! -- Benoit™ 21:22, 12 June 2007 (CEST)

The Mentor's "mentoring homepage" is located here. I'm just catching up from yesterday on Egg Super Nation, and noting all this down for future reference at Caseypedia. -- Benoit™ 21:29, 12 June 2007 (CEST)
Maybe a MurseMaster-y question here: should CaseyPedia use information sourced only from the leaked files? R-Boy issued some pretty strong warnings yesterday. NoDebt doesn't want to host them here; they are all now I believe hosted on filesharing sites. Can we, should we, use them? --Lawnmower man 23:09, 12 June 2007 (CEST)
well, if the information's out there and it's clear it's not being made up off the top of someone's head, then there's no reason why it shouldn't be used in some form. It's not like it's a state secret or anything. And the MurseMaster sleeps well at night in the knowledge that the MurseMaster is several timezones east of all your "DMCAs" and whatever. (Still wouldn't want to touch the raw files themselves at this point - also for technical reasons). --NoDebtWhatSoEver™ 23:18, 12 June 2007 (CEST)
Okey-dokey then. Suggest we create a page Casey and Marty's Hidden Content Area that can be used as a link in refs to info in the files; that page give the outing history, show Dawg's screenshot, and link to the off-site copies of each of the files. Should be able to collect the download links from yesterday's EN comments. --Lawnmower man 23:25, 12 June 2007 (CEST)

[edit] warning issued

I would issue a stern warning of caution of revealing anything related to the files.

casey obviously doesnt have any means or resources to sue over them...but I am pretty damn sure the publisher does.

Tipping your hand by revealing too much info from those tapes is a bad bad bad idea.

but do as you may..I will just say I told you so when the shit hits the fan.

caseypedia is starting to go into unchartered waters..and into the realm of lawyers and lawsuits if too much is revealed.....and r-boy said it all over EN.

I'm inclined to agree. If others open them up and start transcribing contents so be it but I'd hate to see this fine effort (CaseyPedia) shut down with an injunction. --Pmspms 01:51, 13 June 2007 (CEST)--Pmspms 01:51, 13 June 2007 (CEST)

Two words: published works. Two more words: fair use. I'm inclined to think that quoting snippets for the purposes of commentary, review, or satire would be defensible fair use. *Hosting* the files, or transcribing them wholesale, would be an entirely different kettle of fish. Is User:Btc still around? He seemed well-informed on copyright issues.
Mostly moot anyway, because who the hell has the patience to sit through 14 fricking hours of Casey's mumblings? --Lawnmower man 02:13, 13 June 2007 (CEST)
bleh, the Caseypedia servers are located somewhere in Europe, as NoDebt said above. Combine that with the fact that the files were on a publicly available website, and that any information about them would be paraphrased (not plagiarized or quoted), and any threatened lawsuits would have no merit and would cost Marty McFly an extraordinary amount of time and money. Please also remember that this guy is/was hoping to make a buck on Casey's felonious activities, and is arguably a scammer himself. Nuff said. -- Benoit™ 02:15, 13 June 2007 (CEST)
