Talk:Main Page

I removed the "competing with EN" phrase from Breaking News, as the founders of caseyhaterz.com are stating that it is not meant to be a competitive site. --Sprezzatura 21:03, 8 July 2007 (CEST)
I added a line about the archive at the Andric Group - anyone feel like poking around about them? It looks like a half-baked website. Must need some wheatgrass. Or koi.--Schnapps 05:49, 5 June 2007 (CEST)
Is there any significance to the weird HTML/wiki mix in Recent Posts? Can the more... / Posted under lines be deleted to make room for more recent posts on the front page? --Lawnmower man 05:36, 22 May 2007 (CEST)
I took the Recent Posts recaps and ran with them -- building an Episode Guide over at IAFF, for commentary and handy all-in-one-place links for each IAFF post. Sound good? --Lawnmower man 05:36, 22 May 2007 (CEST)
- yes, please keep the special HTML formatting as-is, there's a Reason™ NoDebtWhatSoEver™ 08:31, 23 May 2007 (CEST)
Some suggestions for additional What's What entries:

[edit] IAFF has been toast for a long time
Is there any reason not to start killing the long-dead IAFF links wherever they're encountered when editing a page? It's not like they're coming back Anytime Soon, and the bazillion dead links kind of clog up the place.
WeWantTheFunk 14:07, 5 July 2008 (CEST)
[edit] Timeline guy
Somebody's summarized all his stuff in a blog. I added the link.
[edit] IAFF permalinks
Casey's changed the permalink structure on IAFF -- what used to be http://iamfacingforeclosure.com/228/all-you-have-to-do-is-ask/ is now http://iamfacingforeclosure.com/?p=228. Mad IT blunderz, or is he trying to break all Caseypedia links to IAFF? --Lawnmower man 08:01, 22 May 2007 (CEST)
- As of 5/22/2007, the old link format still works on all pages, as far as I can tell... Benoit™ 08:08, 22 May 2007 (CEST)
- Must've been a brief IAFF server hiccup. Looks OK now. --Lawnmower man 08:10, 22 May 2007 (CEST)
[edit] Wikipedia additions
I just added in some material to Casey's Wikipedia listing, refering to both the most recent talkathon, as well as throwing out some sweet love for Caseypedia. Hope the additional material stays up, I think I put it in the correct section, and it seems relevant to me. Now that I think about it, I should have provided references and links to Talkshoe and to here, but I did not think to do so at the time.

I would like to see something under THE VDUB for THE Properties with a list of the properties casey has flopped..I mean flipped with links to each article property individually.
[edit] need a article click under navigation to left of main page under blue ball
I dont know how to do it.
[edit] the main page is too cluttered
my suggestions
Move the contribute to a seperate page and put a link for it under toolbox.
also move contributors to a seperate page and put a link in under navigation for contributors
Move recent IAFF posts to its own page also and link it somewhere on the main page
Make the welcome to caseypedie run full from left to right..its all squished together and dump the crap in it..(shorten it up abit)
move the haterz blogs to a seperate page with a link
..just my .02 cents....its just very cluttered and annoying.
[edit] Yes, move contributor list to it's own page, off the main
Very much Agree that the Haterz™ contribution names could be moved to a seperate 'credits' or contributor's page, and then be infinitely expandable without messing up Sweet™ front page real estate!
I'm just very afraid to try such surgery myself, as a total newbie.

[edit] The What's What section
Okay, okay, now we are smokin' - front page is looking good'!
We got some more space, some nice white space, and an overall appealing look....
I also love how the "What's What" section is starting to appear like the focal point of the Blog -- and with the small clickable pics, we could add a cast of many more seminal people, objet, and events that can each be represented with a single clever icon/avatar.
One improvement: I would suggest that if possible, we go from the current space-inefficient single column table, to something more akin to a "Brady Bunch" panel, with equally sized icons, and short text underneath to invite maximum clickability.
I would try this myself, but I am a poor HTML looser ™; barely able to make an embedded link tag.
Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
Soemdood 22:04, 27 May 2007 (CEST)
- Yes, I think the single column is better -- nice work. On the What's What suggestion, it ain't me either -- my mad IT skillz don't stretch *that* far -- but it sounds good. And can we consider adding Galina back? Victim or not, she's certainly a very large player in the saga. --Lawnmower man 01:40, 28 May 2007 (CEST)
- I don't think we should add Galina back. In fact, given that Nigel seems to have fled into the sunset with his tail between his legs, I'm wondering if he should stay first-paged at all. How about adding that bit about the Wheatgrass shots instead of Nigel? --Sprezzatura 01:49, 28 May 2007 (CEST)
- Feels a little like airbrushing players out of the saga to me. Although I've never been entirely comfortable with some of the gaybashing directed at Nigel: a fine line to tread between innuendo and hate. --Lawnmower man 02:11, 28 May 2007 (CEST)
[edit] Main page suggestion
I'm not keen on the new single column format.
I'd suggest a newspaper front page style layout similar to the original but with links to articles that are op-ed as well as the current "factual" ones.
It's not important - just MHO.

[edit] Metafilter link
We got sweet foreclosure juice from Metafilter today. --Lawnmower man 19:14, 1 June 2007 (CEST)
[edit] Deathwatch over
Can we move the "IAFF Deathwatch" to its own page, or possibly add it to the "Episode Summary" where Casey pulled the plug for a whole 5 days? The DeathWatch is clearly over. FWIW, I kind of liked the main page as it was originally with the icons on the upper right. Maybe I'll work on the "Test Main Page" later... -- Benoit™ 02:11, 8 June 2007 (CEST)
- IMHO, it doesn't need its own page -- all the pertinent info is already in the summary
, with the exception of the screenshots which I'll copy over later tonight. The CHJTS talkcast summary should go to a section of talkcast, at least pending any better organization of the talkcast materials. Other than that, don't see any need to keep it at all -- just delete the entire section. --Lawnmower man 03:02, 8 June 2007 (CEST)
- OK, done -- created Haterz™-cast and moved the talkcast summary there.--Lawnmower man 00:39, 9 June 2007 (CEST)
- I actually think the single-column main page is better -- less clutter. It does waste space in the What's What section though -- maybe just that section could be made double-column so we can fit more stuff in? --Lawnmower man 03:02, 8 June 2007 (CEST)
[edit] itsallover
Hey, maybe the tagline under the blue ball should be struck-through and replaced with itsallback. Or something :) --Schnapps 04:45, 9 June 2007 (CEST)
Should we cross out "itsallover" under the main logo and replace it with "itsallback" or some similar catchphrase? Sort of misleading since he censored some of the pages, but it was the first thing that came to mind. Segfault 04:15, 11 June 2007 (CEST) Crap, I just saw that someone has already suggested that above. I second the suggestion. Segfault 04:16, 11 June 2007 (CEST)
- aha, a pesky detail. I've put the original image back, but have no time for photoshopping anything in right now. --NoDebtWhatSoEver™ 08:43, 11 June 2007 (CEST)

- Now that Casey's back, we need another phrase? --NotAnOptimist 00:00, 3 July 2007 (CEST)
- Good point, Details Guy. I've had my Power Team restore the original logo, but may be we can find some aspiring writer who'll come up with a new sweet phrase for us. Maybe something legalese? --NoDebtWhatSoEver™ 00:09, 3 July 2007 (CEST)
Me thinks loss mit pro and duane need to be added alongside casey and nigel on the who's who..
They are playing a pivotal role in this saga.
Rob dawg may need to be added also.
The entire story is driven by their happenings right now.
...and maybe marty mcfly needs to be up there too since him and snowflake are joined at the hip.
- A countdown timer for the 24-day deathwatch deadline perhaps? Segfault 03:06, 12 July 2007 (CEST)
- I've got the javascipt handy right now. The wiki doesn't like HTML code. --ClutchGuy 16:53, 12 July 2007 (CEST)
- can you post the code source on my talk page or if that doesn't word send me it by mail? I need to modify the wiki source for anything beyond basic HTML. --NoDebtWhatSoEver™ 17:13, 12 July 2007 (CEST)
Time for itsallgood itsallgone? --Lawnmower man 22:00, 2 August 2007 (CEST)
- Perhaps, but there's still porn!--Akubi 04:50, 3 August 2007 (CEST)
[edit] Newbies
Someone posted over on EN requesting a "plain English summary"[[1]], we could either do this by making the Newbie link more prominent, maybe with it's own "Are you new..." section, and then adding a brief run-down of the main plot points + players on the Newbie page, or by creating a summary page. Thoughts? -- NotAnOptimist 19:07, 13 June 2007 (CEST)
- Good idea. I think maybe a summary page with an executive summary of 1 or 2 paragraphs, then a slightly more detailed rundown of the main points / players. Any of you details guys up for it? --NoDebtWhatSoEver™ 22:43, 13 June 2007 (CEST)
Where are you getting the info that galina is going to post? Is she going to post on IAFF or on EN? --CHJTS 07:04, 19 June 2007 (CEST)
