Talk:Steve Serin

I just sourced Steve Serin's approximate birth year of 1986, which is new information in this nightmarish saga. Since Margarita was born in "roughly" 1985, I'm wondering if these two are actually fraternal twins (unlikely), or if their mother acted as the proverbial baby factory, plopping out one after another (likely). In the latter case, where does Tim fit in? Remember, Casey was born when his mother was only 19 years old. That's pretty young. According to public records, Timothy Serin is roughly the same age as Casey (I see "23"). I have a bunch of circumstantial evidence proving Tim is an actual brother, which will shortly be posted. I'm thinking the order of birth is:

  • 1982 - Casey
  • 1984 (?) - Tim
  • 1985 - Margarita
  • 1986 - Steve
  • 1993 - Kristina

I'm seriously wondering if Margarita and Steve are twins. I need to find the photo of Aleksey and four of the kids sitting at a restaurant -- the one where Casey had shaved his head. Any help? Benoit™ 06:22, 22 May 2007 (CEST)

While I understand the fascination, I'm sort of wondering why any of this really matters. There's no evidence I can see that any of his siblings are particularly involved in this saga. And it also doesn't seem that Steve fits into the same "failure" cateogry as Casey does, as the article states. Sure, he is probably fairly uneducated and working in a trade rather than a "professional" job, but I sure don't want to trash anybody for that! Especially since it seems he's making more money and providing more use to society than big brother Casey. (Our only evidence of any problems is Casey's asshole-ish statement that Steve didn't do good work. I take this with exactly the same block of salt I take any other Casey statement. More likely, bro Steve did as best he could given that Casey probably had a car that was a piece of shit.)

Don't want to take any of the fun out of this, but making snarky remarks about people whose only connection is the misfortune of having Casey as a relative seems a bit harsh. One could argue that they've had enough punishment.

That said...

We know they all come from a community that by most American standards would be considered a bunch of religious nutcases. I lived in Salt Lake for a couple of years and found the Mormons to be far more reasonable and less antagonistic than the Sacto Russians. They're like out of the middle ages. So his mom had him at 19? I'd certainly buy that. Surprised it took her that long. Don't think there's any specific evidence of twins, just evidence that she had one kid after another, though twins are definitely a possibility.

Yeah, I know the siblings don't really relate to the main "storyline". I just like sleuthing around on the Internet, to be perfectly honest.  :-) There's a "certain fascination", as you put it, with finding things out like Swaby's birthday (scooped by me on EN a few months back), Goates' middle name, etc. Benoit™ 06:54, 22 May 2007 (CEST)

Don't disagree, I just don't like snarking at him. There's no real evidence that he failed at anything. Even if you take Casey at face value, which I don't, then the worst sin he committed was taking a bit of time to come up to speed in his profession. I'd be happy to see an entry that called out Casey for being an asshole when he sniped at his own brother online in a public forum. By all indications, his brother is more successful than he ever will be. btc

Totally agreed -- in my defense, I wasn't the one who wrote the snarky article.  :-) I just added in the birth year. I don't mind the snarkiness in any case though. As someone I know likes to say, it's all good!! Benoit™ 07:24, 22 May 2007 (CEST)
I wrote the original snark. I had mixed feelings about it; the lure of reusing "failing forward" won out. Btc's revision, fingering Casey's uncouth manners, is much better -- nice job. --Lawnmower man 21:40, 25 May 2007 (CEST)

I think we ought to show a little more respect to the family, especially after tonight's call. Sprezzatura 03:23, 26 May 2007 (CEST)
I agree. I've said this more than once before, but I really really do not see the point of having separate entries for family members. It adds nothing to the saga and just makes us look like stalkers, and I'm not comfortable with being a part of that. And I'm not convinced by the "well, it's all in the public domain" excuse - this may well be true, but by collecting all this together and putting it up here you've made it far, far easier to track down this information. True, Steve Serin has just voluntarily made himself a part of the story, but the others haven't, and we should respect their privacy. Especially if they're not active online, because their Caseypedia entries may rapidly become the main Google search result on their names - with all that that implies. --Miguel
I just sanitized the links (mostly just his mom and dad) to remove snarky comments. That said, I'm also of the opinion that they have really no importance to the story. Steve, Yulia and Galina are part of it. Don't really see how the parents, two sisters or Tim are involved in any way. At some level, I like to think that we are better than him in how we treat people. --btc 09:11, 26 May 2007 (CEST)
In the talkcast, Steve confirmed that their dad does not approve of Casey's actions - he said this more than once - so I've added this info to Aleksey's page. Now this kind of thing IS worth mentioning, especially as there's a tendency to assume that silence means acquiescence. --Miguel
