The only time you might have to set the psi high is when you are shooting in recessed areas. When it comes to area coverage, the low psi works best. To keep tabs on the gun pressure, you can use wall mounted regulators bearing in mind that some pressure is lost as it moves through the hose. This means a nine psi setting will be lower than that at the shooting point. To overcome this discrepancy, you can use inline gauges before the gun. This can be in the form of a mini-regulator.

High kV settings

High-end powder coated guns work on adjustable kV settings. The higher, the more efficient. More powder sticks to the part rather than ending up in overspray. All in all, the higher, the better. Those shooting on large panels will have to crank the kV settings to 100kv. This produces an adequate distance between the part being sprayed and the gun. A good distance is 8 inches. A defect known as black ionization brings about tiny dimples on the coating. In that case, it is advisable to use less kv for the complicated areas. You can begin with 50kv then tone down to 30 or 20 in the Faraday areas. Some gun can go as low as 15kv. The low setting enables the sprayer to complete more tasks.
